The APTS Philosophy

cycle_thumb

Aerobic Power Training Systems is based on this simple principle: in all endurance sports, the faster you wish to perform a given amount of work, the more power you will need to produce to do so.

The foundation of the APTS approach is supported by the research of Dr. Jon McGavock and reading his article, Aerobic Power and the APTS Philosophy is a great way to understand our methods and mindset.

Since retiring from hockey, Kevin has completed eight Ironmans including two Hawaii Ironman Championships, with his best finish coming at the Ironman Canada in 2003 with a time of 9 hours 36 minutes.

While competing in the short and long course disciplines, Kevin has qualified for the Canadian World Age Group Team. The following year at Great White North 2008, Kevin PR’d with a 4 hour 6 minute clocking and a 4th place overall finishing.

Kevin also competes in the individual disciplines, including category 2 bike racing. His personal bests in running are 33:55 in the 10 km, 75 minutes in the half marathon and 2 hours 44 minutes in the marathon.

Kevin’s desire to find new ways to push the limits of body and mind lured him and a teammate to the 2008 2nd running of the Trans Rockies 110 mile Run Race in CO where they finished 4th overall out of 75 teams.

Race stats aside, Kevin continually strives to improve his own development as a coach. Althetes train with APTS because of the  boundless enthusiasm and energy that Kevin invests into improving their performance.

Marc Meunier: Triathlon / Cycling Coach

thumb_Marc_M_photo001During years of competitive hockey, Marc always enjoyed the strength and conditioning component of the game.  Getting prepared physically in the summer for the fall training camps was an area that Marc excelled at.  Year after year, Marc’s commitment to fitness was evident with his high scores in the testing. When his playing career was over he decided to make use of his training skills and experience to train hockey players off ice.

For the next 8 years Marc worked with many elite junior, college and professional hockey players from all over the world.  It was very gratifying to watch these players attain their fitness goals but something was missing.  Marc missed the training and competing himself and was looking for something to fill the void. When he met his wife Susan she was involved in triathlon. Marc decided he would teach himself how to swim and buy a road bike so he could train with her and try something different.  This experiment turned into a passion and the hockey conditioning was replaced with swimming, biking, running and racing all over the country.

To date, Marc has completed 5 Ironmans including the World Ironman Championships in Kona with a time of 9:54.  His marathon resume includes a 2:44 Chicago Marathon, a 2:47 Edmonton marathon, and a 2:55 Boston marathon where he completed part of the race with Lance Armstrong.

His desire and focus to constantly achieve personal best times is addictive to those around him and translates well to endurance Coaching.
