Then you will have plenty of options for some indoor race action which is always important for spring and summer performances. (if you are saying nope not for me, I race Great White North then Ironman Penticton please KEEP READING!......ha ha).
Why Race? Summer is over but that doesn’t mean that racing must stop. Races are a great way to see the benefits of the long hours of training. They can provide a refreshing change to the regular grind and in the end give you a very good indication of your current fitness level. Regardless of your “Goal Races” during the year it is important to try out some shorter, faster races on the road (or indoors) to build up to your big race. If you are training for a marathon or Ironman it’s great to have 3km, 10km and half marathons on your schedule.
Running fast at longer distances comes from running faster at shorter distances. You need to push your limits and speed in all race disciplines.
With these helpful hints in mind here are some highlighted APTS Races as we look towards a new season of training.
Note you will need to register beforehand and check the track meet schedule for race times.
Athletics Alberta is always a good site for this info.

Possible Races.
Dec 15th / 16th. The morning track groups will all take part in the 3rd Annual APTS Christmas Mile. Great Fun and its only one mile. Free yera of training whomever goes sub 4:00.
Jan 15th/16th and Feb 13th/14th are indoor meets at the butterdome. They have all athletic events but the APTS crew should look for the 1500 and / or 3000m races. These can be competitive but don't be intimidated. Everyone is invited and they are awesome experience for pacing and finding where your speed endurace workouts should be.
And lastly in March (date TBA) we will have the 2nd annual Great APTS Indoor 3km event. This is a friendly APTS race at the butterdome. 15 laps of glory and fun with the support of about 30 - 40 apts athletes.
If you ever have any questions on any of the races or how to approach them just let me know.
Have fun.....
