I've started running in the 5 fingers not quite up to Kevin's 45 minutes yet though. I'm at a modest 20 minutes, the thing I've noticed after running most of last season in the newtons is that I now can't tell difference between them. Yes the Newtons are heavier, but in terms of how my foot strikes the ground or treadmill I can't tell as it all seems to be on the forefoot. I also use a pair of very light Adizero RC race flats for intervals on the treadmill and there doesn't appear to be much between how my foot lands between the three set of shoes. I guess a video camera would be able to tell for sure. With regard to running in the Newton shoes. I didn't think that they did that much for me in terms of getting me onto the forefoot or mid foot as they claim. But when I go back to using light running shoes I can definitely notice that something has changed, running feels easier as in lighter not as in getting faster (if that makes sense) There was an article on the Edmonton Journal website about the benefits of barefoot running (might have read this already) http://www.edmontonjournal.com/health/diet-fitness/Barefoot+runners+have+safer+stride+Researchers/2495265/story.html

Extremely interesting and explained well.I agree with it 100%. I can run 45 plus minutes in 5 fingers, but in a mile I receive a nail in my arch with a mid range type adidas shoe that I used to like and wear a lot.

Not sure if you guys have had a chance to watch this one. This is the last lap or so of the 10,000m final from Sydney. There are some great shots of Haile G and Paul Tergat running side by side. You'll notice that their strides are almost identical even though Tergat is approx. 6 inches taller than Haile.

"The approach is what I would call 'metric', trying to get the best results out of the least training, so all workouts are planned and recorded and there is a fair bit of discussion between Kevin and each individual athlete although there are many people in the program."
