While focusing on quality equipment and proper fitting of all the shoes we offer, we can offer something for everyone. Weather you are looking to run for fitness or set a new PB, we can find a shoe that is right for you. At Fast Trax Run & Ski Shop we have several categories of shoes to match your exercise goals. Each category has a specific purpose and is matched to your needs.
Bare Foot Shoes
- Vibram FiveFingers® allow you to relive that sensation. Unlike conventional shoes that insulate you from your surroundings, FiveFingers footwear deepens your connection to the earth and your surroundings. FiveFingers enhance your sense of touch and feel, while improving foot strength, balance, agility, and range of motion. Because wearing Vibram FiveFingers is so close to going barefoot, you’ll enjoy the health and performance benefits of barefooting without some of the risks.
Mid Foot Shoes
- Striking on your forefoot is the most natural way to run, it is also the fastest and most efficient way to run. Midfoot running shoes are developed to make your feet think they're barefoot and increase your performance.
Natural Movement Shoes
- Natural Motion allows the body to move in its preferred motion path. Though Natural Motion, the muscle formation the body is supported long term, strengthened and performance optimized.
High Mileage Trainers
- High mileage trainers are the most common of all the categories and come in three sub categories providing the most cushioning and support. These shoes are designed for slower paced running as they are heaviest shoes of the all the categories and do not roll efficiently for fast paced running.
- Neutral - You should wear cushioned shoes if you are a runner who needs maximum midsole cushioning and minimum medial (arch-side) support.
- Stability - You should wear stability shoes if you are a runner who needs medial (arch-side) support and good midsole cushioning
- Control - You should wear motion-control shoes if you are a runner who over pronates moderately to severely. Motion-control shoes will give you maximum rear foot control and extra support on the medial (arch) side of the foot.
Light Weight Trainers
- Light weight trainers come in two categories and provide a light, well-balanced shoe suitable for racing, speedwork, or daily training. These shoes are best-suited for fast paced training and longer racing. Lightweight trainers also make a nice transition shoe for runners looking to transition into a more dynamic shoe.
- Neutral
- Stability
Racing Flats
- Racing flats also come in two categories and provide an exceptionally fast, lightweight shoe for racing. More recently racing flats have been gaining ground as an everyday training shoe minimizing the interface between the foot and the ground. The less the shoe interferes with the foot's natural mechanism, the more the foot will solidify and the greater it will perform to absorb shock.
- Neutral
- Stability
Track / XC Spikes
- Track spikes are specifically designed for running on the track or short XC running races. These shoes are very light and have removable spikes for fast paced running maximizing strong toe off.
Trail Shoes
- Trail shoes can be broken down the same as road shoes with racing, lightweight and high mileage trainers. Trail shoes are rugged shoes with great outsole traction and some weather and water-resistant qualities. Many trail shoes are built low-to-the-ground for added stability on rough trails.

- Stability
Trail Hybrid
- · A trail hybrid shoe can be used for both road and trail running. These shoes are not as rugged as trail shoes but provide a slightly more aggressive shoe than a straight road running shoe.

New Movement
- As a runner looking to make the move to a lighter more dynamic shoe It is essential when changing your shoes that you do it very gradually in order to aid the mechanical change and the requirements on the muscles of the foot and calf to adapt progressively. Moving towards a shoe less absorbent and more delicate can be done in two simple steps;
- lightweight trainer
- performance racing shoe
Note: If you are new to running and have been using a heavy support shoe, I would suggest adding one more step;
- neutral high mileage trainer
- lightweight trainer
- performance racing shoe
Hope this helps
