Kevin's Blog

kevin_mastersEvery now and then, when I'm not busy working with athletes or taking care of business, I find time to write an article or two about things that are motivating, inspiring, and educating.

I hope you enjoy my blog -- feel free to drop me a note if you have something you'd like me to cover in an upcoming article!

Looking for Adventure

How fast your time in Spain flies by. We are just finishing our week 2 day off, here now on Thursday. This one was much more needed  by all after some fabuously challenging rides over the last 3 days. We are also looking pretty genious with the schedule to for after an amazing hot and sunny day yesterday for the epic ride, today we woke up to drizzle which slowly increased to a down pour as the day went on. What to do? Well after a conversation about moountain biking with one of the guides here, Dieter, that was quickly turned  into a trail running idea. I decided to find company and go run a trail to a monestary.

For those of you from Aerobic Power you probably know the only one I could possibly talk into this vague adventure was Annett. One of many great examples of the support here, Dieter offered to drive us to the trail head so we had limited road running and then drive up to the monestary so we could actually do a point to point run and finish at the monestary instead of having to turn around mid trail to arrive back at our same start location. It's always more fun running somewhere you don't know and on trails that you don't quite know how far they are or just how difficult they are. Annett and I had a great time, running by stone walls, that looked like they were built in a previous century. We ran by abandoned castles and farm houses providing the feeling we were just shot back in a time capsule. Annett and I are quite directionally challenged at the best of times and now we were dropped into a forest in the middle of a small spanish Island. Fortunately we ran with little doubt up to about 14 or 15 km. At that point we start using hunches until we started to hear music. Loud "Roxette" playing the song "The Look". We headed that way thinking there would at least be people just to confirm our navigational choices. To our surprise the party was taking place at the LLuc Monestary, our destination!! Further ahead was the cafe and Dieter standing in the doorway with a big smile. During my cafe con lache, pizza and cake in the cafe Dieter asked if I had fun and was happy with his broken english as he is german but comes over to guide every year. I said I couldn't be happier with my run adventure, his reply and an example of the types of people here working with us was, "good then that makes me happy to."  First class !!

Testimonials

"I wanted to thank you for your help earlier in the year with my IT Band injury. I finished the Sinister 7 and Deathrace this year healthy with no IT Band issues. I actually believe the second leg I completed in the Sinister 7 pushed my glute medius into finally working properly. I really believe the workouts you provided me made the difference this year and I wanted to thank you. To be honest, I didn’t know or necessarily believe I’d be alright after the Deathrace since for the last two years it’s signalled the end of the season for me. Now, I’m in uncharted waters. I haven’t been this healthy since 2006. I want to go after my Boston Marathon Qualifying time."
