Athletes Give NAPA Power Cycling Camp 10 / 10 !

The NAPA Power Cycling Camp has a bright future. Cyclists from Alberta, many from Aerobic Power and TCR Sportlab enjoyed a full week of cycling and sunshine in Calistoga, CA. Athletes began their outdoor season with beautiful 60-100km rides through wineries, up big climbs and time trialing over fast long straightaways. Coaches Kevin Masters and Cory Fagan provided the lead outs on the daily ride adventures as well as informative power training lectures in the evenings. Calistoga provided super opportunities for great food and wine on a nightly basis, making it an all round super cycling vacation.

Preparing for 2012!

November always brings an increased level of excitement to Aerobic Power 's coaches, athletes and new incoming athletes. As a training staff we strongly encourage some down time so outside of those with fall races, most should be avoiding the structure through the fall months, maybe trying some new activities and regenerating for the next training and racing season. Well we have discovered we can't hold them off any longer then November. So for our 12th season I am excited to say registration is open for your swim, bike, run training, and sport specific strength training programs. Please check out all our great options for any level and schedule or contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

End of Season Approaches for Most

Heading into fall Aerobic Power encourages everyone to make sure they get a break from the rigorous training and racing. As we collect the fabulous results from IMC last Sunday it marks the end of our group sessions for the group cycling programs. With Edmonton generally having nice falls hopefully you will get out on the trails on a x-bikes or mtn bikes and enjoy some different scenery and learn some new skills.

September /October will go by fast and hopefully by November you’ll be ready to plan and build for 2012 when all our programs kick off again.

We will continue with our group weights as the off season is a perfect time to spend more time in the gym, and we’ll continue with our group track sessions to ensure Aerobic Power excels in the abundant list of fall running races.

Janelle Meredith Competes in ITU Sprint

2 years and a month Jannelle is back competing in the sport she loves, following a serious stroke. She was nice enough to write a little post racer summary about how her first event went. Congratulations !!!

I have been given the clearance to do a short race. I am now off all medications and the
only residual affects of the stroke is the loss of the partial vision on the left side. I felt
good going into the race, the training had gone well. The conditions were not ideal
for the race as it was rainy. My first thought was that the rain would dilute the pond and
make it nicer to swim in. I was pretty nervous going into the race but Lori kept me calm
as she was with me from the beginning, picking me up and driving me to the race. My
goal was to finish the race, and have a good run at the end. The swim went well, the run
into the bike transition was good but I forgot to make a mental note of wear my bike was
positioned, rookie mistake. My transition was fairly slow as it was wet and I had issues
getting out of the wet suit. I was most nervous about the bike because of the vision issue
and the wet conditions so I aired on the cautious side during the race. This set me up
for a good run. My transition was slow off the bike and onto the run, my legs felt really
fresh and I was in a comfortable rhythm right away. The run went well and it was the
best run that I have ever felt off the bike. I felt good after the race and was very happy to
be back into the sport again. Thanks to all that have helped me get back to where I am
today!

There are Ironman and then there are Ironwomen

In the triathlon world completing an Ironman is quite an impressive feat. Jannelle Meredith was on her way to competing in Ironman Canada two years ago when one week after completing the Oliver 1/2 Ironman she suffered a very serious stroke. When training for an Ironman we all have a pretty good idea of the training required to complete an Ironman, we can prepare mentally and prepare our lives to accomodate this hectic and challenging schedule. Jannelle received no warning and new nothing of what was required to get herself back to wear she is now, back on schedule to completing her goal she set two years ago.

If you think watching an Ironman is inspiring make sure you read about jannelle's story here.

Testimonials

"I wanted to thank my APTS coaches for contributing to my recent success in the Boston Marathon where I ran a PB of 3 hours and 41 minutes. Since joining APTS I have taken 26 minutes off my marathon time while decreasing my number of runs per week. I am a believer and proof that your training plan really works. I am now dedicated to my 3 specific training runs (Tempo, Track & long run) with supplementation of a bike work out or recovery run. I would never have believed that I could increase my speed by so much, let alone run a 3:41 by doing only 3 runs/week. I am so grateful for the coaching and support that I have received from APTS. I could not have gone into my race so well-prepared if it were not for my coaches. In addition to my training plan, you help me plan my nutrition for race day, make a race plan that that allowed for modification based on race day and ensure that I was mentally and physically prepared for a hilly marathon course all so that I could execute my dream race plan. I am still basking in the success of my race.

I am so grateful to Kate, Kevin, Jon and Brian for their belief in me. Anytime that I doubted myself you were all there to tell me I could do it. Thanks for helping me fulfill a life-long dream. I will never forget my Boston experience or the help APTS gave me to get to Boston. You guys are awesome and I look forward to many more years of training together."

A sincerely happy APTS runner
