End of Season Approaches for Most
Written by Kevin Masters Tuesday, August 30, 2011 08:38 PM
Heading into fall Aerobic Power encourages everyone to make sure they get a break from the rigorous training and racing. As we collect the fabulous results from IMC last Sunday it marks the end of our group sessions for the group cycling programs. With Edmonton generally having nice falls hopefully you will get out on the trails on a x-bikes or mtn bikes and enjoy some different scenery and learn some new skills.
September /October will go by fast and hopefully by November you’ll be ready to plan and build for 2012 when all our programs kick off again.
We will continue with our group weights as the off season is a perfect time to spend more time in the gym, and we’ll continue with our group track sessions to ensure Aerobic Power excels in the abundant list of fall running races.

Janelle Meredith Competes in ITU Sprint

2 years and a month Jannelle is back competing in the sport she loves, following a serious stroke. She was nice enough to write a little post racer summary about how her first event went. Congratulations !!!
I have been given the clearance to do a short race. I am now off all medications and the
only residual affects of the stroke is the loss of the partial vision on the left side. I felt
good going into the race, the training had gone well. The conditions were not ideal
for the race as it was rainy. My first thought was that the rain would dilute the pond and
make it nicer to swim in. I was pretty nervous going into the race but Lori kept me calm
as she was with me from the beginning, picking me up and driving me to the race. My
goal was to finish the race, and have a good run at the end. The swim went well, the run
into the bike transition was good but I forgot to make a mental note of wear my bike was
positioned, rookie mistake. My transition was fairly slow as it was wet and I had issues
getting out of the wet suit. I was most nervous about the bike because of the vision issue
and the wet conditions so I aired on the cautious side during the race. This set me up
for a good run. My transition was slow off the bike and onto the run, my legs felt really
fresh and I was in a comfortable rhythm right away. The run went well and it was the
best run that I have ever felt off the bike. I felt good after the race and was very happy to
be back into the sport again. Thanks to all that have helped me get back to where I am
today!
